Synopsis

Kerfuffle

Kerfuffle is an award-winning midwestern theatre and dance company devoted to creating aesthetically and emotionally engaging performances for children ages 0-6 years old. Founded in 2015, Kerfuffle centers young children as major creative partners in the development of new work and shares playful, multi-sensory performances in museums, libraries, parks, and other nontraditional spaces. Children’s imagination is at the center of Kerfuffle’s process. In order to understand what engages, delights, and surprises children, Kerfuffle’s plays are developed through creative drama workshops where young people create stories, characters, and worlds in collaboration with adult artists. Kerfuffle is a registered 501(c)3 organization and is the 2020 recipient of the Zeta Phi Eta-Winifred Ward Outstanding New Children's Theatre Company Award through the American Alliance for Theatre and Education. www.kerfuffleTVY.com

WHAT IS BEHOLD?

What does it feel like after the rain? Can we sing like a mourning dove? How can we keep the colors of the sunset? From sun up to sun down- what can we see, hear, and touch?

behold is an opera for the very young that captures and amplifies the grandness of our everyday lives. Over the course of a day, Celeste and Fern awaken, explore, and experience a sunrise, birds, a rainstorm, sunset and moonrise. The ensemble of performers - on vibraphone, clarinet, percussion, and voice - guide little ones and caregivers in performance, play, and a sensory experience. behold is an interactive experience in and around Kerfuffle's intimate yurt dome.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:

Participants will experience some of the music from the opera as well as explore sensory props and items in and around Kerfuffle's intimate yurt dome. The workshop performances will feature elements like shadow puppetry and projection.

behold is best enjoyed by children ages 1-3, though all ages are welcome. Caregivers are required to stay with or near their child through the duration of the rehearsal.

PLEASE NOTE: The entrance to the yurt is 5 ft tall and adults may need to bend down to enter the yurt dome. Seating will be on the floor with cushions. The yurt dome seats 22 people so capacity is limited. We recommend a ratio of one adult to one child.

If you or someone in your party requires a chair, please inform the Writers Theatre Box Office.
